What is continence care?
An individual’s continence care involves teaching them how to keep their bladder healthy, assessing their bladder function, determining an appropriate course of treatment, as well as providing them with emotional support and advice.
Continence vs Incontinence
The continent person has the ability to control his or her bladder and/or bowel independently. Continence is the opposite – being unable to control the release of urine or faeces. Regardless of age or gender, this is most commonly experienced by older people and children, along with women who have just given birth or are pregnant. Care1 professional carers can help you manage or cure incontinence and bladder problems.
Incontinence can be managed by Care1 caregivers by;
- Making sure that your diet is high in fibre
- Using pelvic floor exercises and bladder exercises to improve pelvic health
- Training your bladder control
- Changing pads as required
- Assistance with using the toilet or commode
- Assisting you with medication for incontinence if necessary
